Why no one can guarantee a loan — and how to improve your chances
A short, plain-language guide for business owners in Guyana. No banking jargon.
The honest part first
We prepare your documents. We do not lend money and we are not the Guyana Development Bank, so we cannot approve anything. Anybody who promises you a loan approval for a fee is not telling you the truth.
What we can tell you is this: applications that are complete — every document in place, a clear business plan, and numbers that add up — are far more likely to be funded than applications that are missing pieces. Most applications fail on paperwork, not on the business idea.
How a lender actually decides
Every application goes through a review the bank calls underwriting. A person, not a machine, reads your file and asks a few simple questions:
- • Is this a real business, doing something people will pay for?
- • Do the numbers make sense — will money coming in cover money going out?
- • Can this person repay, and what happens if a month goes badly?
- • Are the documents real, complete, and consistent with each other?
- • Does the applicant fit what this programme was set up to support?
Because a human weighs all of that together, two people with the same sales can get different answers. That is why no one outside the bank can promise you the outcome.
What makes an application strong
- Every document on the checklist is there — nothing missing, nothing expired.
- A written business plan that explains what you sell, who buys, and what the money buys.
- A 12-month estimate of money in and money out, with realistic numbers.
- A clear line showing when the business earns more than it spends.
- Your own contribution — savings, a job, or documented box hand / sou sou money.
- The same figures in every document. No contradictions.
What usually sinks an application
- Missing or expired documents.
- No written plan, or a plan with no numbers in it.
- Figures that do not add up, or that change from one page to the next.
- Money requested for things the programme does not fund.
- Cash income with nothing to show for it — no receipts, no deposits, no records.
What we do, and what we don't
We do: guide you through simple questions, write your business plan, build your 12-month estimate and break-even, and show you exactly which documents you still need and where to get them.
We don't: make lending decisions, submit on your behalf, or guarantee approval. Every number in your plan is yours to check before you submit it.
