Guyana Development Bank Launches: Loans Now Open to Guyanese Entrepreneurs
The Guyana Development Bank became operational on October 5, 2026, with a US$100 million capital base and zero-interest, no-collateral loans of up to GYD $3 million. Here is what is confirmed and how to get ready.
Is the Guyana Development Bank open?
Yes. The Guyana Development Bank became operational on October 5, 2026. President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali announced the launch, and Senior Minister with responsibility for Finance Dr. Ashni Singh confirmed it in an official statement, embedded below so you can read it directly from the source.
The bank launches with a US$100 million capital base and a mandate to finance small and medium-sized Guyanese businesses that commercial banks have traditionally overlooked.
What loans are available?
The government has announced:
- Loans of up to GYD $3 million for eligible borrowers
- Zero interest on those loans
- No collateral required
- Possible co-financing arrangements of up to GYD $7 million for larger projects, according to official statements
Final eligibility rules, interest terms on larger facilities, and the complete loan catalogue will be published by the bank itself. Treat anything not on an official government or bank channel as unconfirmed.
Where do I apply for a Guyana Development Bank loan?
Two application channels have been announced:
- Development Bank desks inside participating commercial banks — Republic Bank, GBTI, Demerara Bank, Citizens Bank, Scotiabank, and Bank of Baroda all operate branches across Guyana.
- An official application app, which has been announced but whose download link and final instructions have not yet been published.
Important: the final list of which branches host a Development Bank desk has not been published yet. A commercial-bank branch existing near you is not confirmation that a desk is operating there. Use our Guyana Development Bank desk locator to find your nearest branch, and call ahead before you travel to confirm a desk is open and ask what to bring. What should I do now?
The applicants who move fastest will be the ones who are already prepared. While the final desk list and app instructions are being published:
- Gather your documents — national ID, business registration, TIN certificate, NIS compliance, and proof of address. Our document guide explains where to get each one.
- Organize your records — sales, expenses, and anything that shows how your business actually performs.
- Prepare a bank-ready business plan — this is the piece most applicants underestimate, and the one lenders read most closely.
You do not have to figure the plan out alone. Answer a few plain-language questions and the platform researches your market and competitors, builds your SWOT analysis, and prepares your financial projections around what you tell us — even the parts you do not know yet.
Guyana Business Loan Ready is an independent service and is not affiliated with the Government of Guyana or the Guyana Development Bank. Rely on official announcements for final application rules.
