Guyana Development Bank Announces GYD $300,000 Quick Loan Option

The Guyana Development Bank offers a Quick Loan option for smaller business needs, alongside SME loans up to GYD $3 million. Learn what the smaller loan is for, how to apply and what to prepare.

What is the Guyana Development Bank Quick Loan?

The Guyana Development Bank now offers a Quick Loan option for smaller business financing needs, alongside its larger SME Loan. The bank became operational on October 5, 2026. The Government's launch announcement confirms zero-interest financing without collateral, with a simpler application process and reduced documentation for Quick Loans.

An important detail about the GYD $300,000 limit: the official portal has presented the Quick Loan as up to GYD $300,000. The Government's October 5 launch release describes Quick Loans as below GYD $300,000, and SME Loans as GYD $300,000 to GYD $3 million. If you need exactly GYD $300,000, confirm the correct loan category with the bank before applying.

Who might consider the smaller loan?

Not every business needs millions of dollars to take its next step. A smaller loan could suit one clearly defined purchase or improvement, such as:

  • A barber buying a chair and equipment.
  • A food seller purchasing a freezer.
  • A seamstress buying another sewing machine.
  • A small retailer adding inventory.
  • An income-generating side business making a useful upgrade.

These are illustrative examples, not promises that a particular purchase or applicant will be approved. Get quotations and check that your intended use meets the bank's requirements.

Does “Quick Loan” mean instant approval?

No approval time is promised here. The Government describes a simplified process and reduced documentation, not guaranteed approval or immediate payment. The bank assesses applications. Once approved, funds are disbursed directly into the borrower's bank account, and repayments are made through the banking and financial system.

Zero interest does not mean the money is a grant. You still have to repay what you borrow. Ask the bank about the repayment schedule, any applicable charges and the full conditions before accepting a loan.

How do you apply for the Quick Loan?

Start at the official Guyana Development Bank website, gdb.gov.gy. The Government confirms two options on the platform:

  1. Apply online, submitting your application and supporting information.
  2. Request an appointment to meet a bank officer for face-to-face assistance.

If you prefer a commercial-bank desk, use our Development Bank branch locator and call ahead before travelling. A listed commercial-bank branch is not confirmation that a Development Bank desk is operating there.

Read our How to Apply guide for more application guidance. Follow the official portal's current document instructions; do not assume the Quick Loan needs the same paperwork as the SME Loan.

What should you prepare before borrowing?

Write down what you will buy, what it costs and how it will help your business earn enough to repay the loan. Gather quotations and the sales and expense records you have. A clear business plan can help organise those decisions, even when the application process is simpler.

You can get your business plan prepared instantly by answering a few plain-language questions. You do not need to know everything: the platform researches market and competitor details and prepares a polished plan around your business information. Review the figures and assumptions before using it.
